Poster fest!

Who it's for: PhD students and junior researchers (assistant lecturers)

When: 28 April 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: Can Jaumandreu Auditorium (U Building, Level 0, UOC Campus)

Following the energy generated at our conference to present the new research ecosystem, we want to keep our scientific community's momentum alive! We're therefore inviting you to participate in Poster Fest! This new open call is designed to give a voice and a leading role to doctoral students and early career researchers.

The goal is clear: to showcase the UOC’s emerging research, creating a space for visibility and networking where ideas can be exchanged and new cross-disciplinary collaborations can be forged.

Who can participate?

• PhD students (on-site or online), junior researchers and assistant lecturers linked to a research group.

• Each research group may present a maximum of 2 posters, and will have to agree internally on which researchers will present them.

Poster format:

• This template must be followed. The poster must be vertical and in A0 size.

• Language: Catalan, Spanish or English.

Exhibition and session:

• The posters will be on display in the auditorium (Level 0, U Building) throughout the morning on the day of the session.

• During the event, an in-person poster session will be held, where each researcher will stand by their poster to present it and answer questions. This session will take place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Key deadlines:

• Confirmation of participation: before 31 March 2026, via this link. Completing this registration is essential for the correct organization of the poster session.

• Submission of the final poster: the poster must be submitted before 14 April 2026, in PDF format. The organization will handle the printing, and for this purpose it must be emailed to vgrt@uoc.edu.

GAIA reimagines the Internet of Things (IoT) by leveraging breakthroughs in biodegradable electronics and ambient communication to deliver a transformative vision: a seamless, sustainable, and circular IoT ecosystem. It introduces a new class of transient, ultralow-power microelectronic systems that combine sensing, computation, and communication in a single biodegradable architecture-free from batteries, active radios, or persistent microcontrollers. Using 6G Ambient IoT backscatter concepts, GAIA devices operate autonomously and interface natively with existing cellular infrastructure. Designed to degrade naturally after use, they offer a batteryless, zero-waste solution that unites infrastructure compatibility with environmental responsibility.

Professionals against disinformation

In education, false information can distort classroom realities: it perpetuates misconceptions about teaching that are not based on science, breeds mistrust among families and has a negative effect on student development.

For this reason, we're hosting a personalized, practical workshop for students in the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences. You'll learn how to identify and counter disinformation using practical tools and real-world examples from your field. The workshop explores different aspects of disinformation, examining its forms, strategies and consequences.

 You'll discover fact-checking techniques and advanced tools for verifying information, scientific studies, photos, videos, audio recordings, AI-generated fake content and social media accounts.

Institutional initiative

This workshop is the result of collaboration between the UOC, through its Office of the Vice Rector for Alliances, Community and Culture, and the European Parliament Office in Barcelona, the European Commission Regional Representation in Barcelona and the Catalonia International Consortium. It will be taught by Learn to Check, which has over seven years' experience in the field of media and information literacy, and extensive experience in university teaching. The aim of the activity is to strengthen the UOC community's ethical and global skills, and civic and social engagement.

Ethnographers from across the humanities and social sciences have recently experimented with multimodal forms of description, analysis and intervention in order to grasp slippery research objects, reach new audiences, and activate latent potentials for a broad range of actions in the world. 

This multimodal turn has resulted in a proliferation of more-than-textual forms that are hard to classify and are at odds with institutionalised modes of disciplinary knowledge production. Despite the important openings created by multimodal works, they are rarely seen in academia as of equal value when compared to articles and monographs. This is in part because peers, reviewers and supervisors are confronted with a complex conundrum: What criteria should be employed to evaluate such multimodal singularities? 

In this two-day workshop – that will take place on March 12th at the University of Barcelona and March 13th at the Open University of Catalonia –, we will introduce the Multimodal Appreciation kit developed by a team of anthropologists at the Humboldt-University of Berlin in response to these conundrums (Judith Albrecht, Tomás Criado, Ignacio Farías, Andrew Gilbert and Carla J. Maier).

This kit provides a set of ­ practical exercises and a framework for valuing and assessing multimodal works. It recognizes their unique capacity to weave together and activate diverse media forms, collaborative practices, and public engagement while expanding the traditional boundaries of ethnographic knowledge production.

Organised by CareNet (UOC) in collaboration with Friccions: Grup d'Antropologia de l'Encontre (ICA) and the Department of Social Anthropology (University of Barcelona), with support from the Volkswagen Stiftung and the Humboldt-University of Berlin's Stadtlabor for Multimodal Anthropology.

We are pleased to invite you to participate in an upcoming webinar hosted within the UNESCO Chair in Education and Technology for Social Change at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). The webinar, entitled “Inclusion & digital education: supporting teachers through the DigCompEdu 4 Inclusion framework”, will take place on Wednesday, 18 March, from 17:00 to 18:30 (CET), in an online format.

This session is particularly relevant for schools and teachers engaged in digital innovation. It explores how digital transformation can more effectively support inclusive teaching practices in alignment with European competence frameworks. The webinar will introduce the “DigCompEdu 4 Inclusion”, a research-based framework designed to strengthen teachers’ digital competences from an inclusive perspective, and will present its structure, rationale and piloting experience. The framework is conceived as a practical tool that schools can use to review and strengthen their current digital inclusion strategies.

In the final part of the webinar, participants will be invited to contribute to the research by completing a questionnaire aimed at assessing the framework’s transferability across different educational contexts. This will provide an opportunity to reflect on how digital technologies are used to foster inclusion in their own settings, while also helping researchers further refine the framework to better respond to teachers’ needs and school realities.

The aim of this conference is to discuss, from an interdisciplinary, sociological, and global perspective, how cultural diversity is represented in funded literary translations—both past and present—and how these shape the global circulation of texts, the publishing market, and cultural policies.

The UOC’s Faculty of Law and Political Science is organizing the 21st IDP Congress: Digital Responsibility and Accountability, which will take place on 2 July 2026 at the UOC Campus in Barcelona.The aim of this Congress is to reflect on responsibility and accountability in the digital environment from legal, political science, criminological, and international relations perspectives, in order to address its ethical, legal, and social challenges and to promote a more democratic, fair, and secure digital culture. 

In an increasingly interconnected world, digital responsibility and accountability have become a priority area of reflection for the social and legal sciences. Power, communication, control, and participation dynamics have been profoundly transformed by digitalization, giving rise to new ethical, legal, and criminological challenges. Reflecting on how individuals, institutions, and technology platforms assume their responsibility in the digital environment is essential to ensure transparency, the protection of rights, and public trust. 

From the perspective of Political Science, the issue is linked to threats to democracy and social justice arising from the development and exploitation of data-processing technologies, as well as the role of AI and big data in public governance to regulate digital risks. In the field of Law, challenges emerge regarding the responsibility and accountability of public administrations and companies for the use (or non-use) of AI within the scope of their activities. From the standpoint of Criminology and Criminal Law, it is essential to analyze aspects such as dark patterns, algorithmic responsibility and content moderation on digital platforms, their legal limits, and proposals to balance innovation with risk prevention. 

Debating digital responsibility and accountability from these academic perspectives allows for the advancement of an interdisciplinary understanding of the ethical, legal, and social dilemmas of the digital age, supporting the development of public policies and regulatory frameworks that promote a fairer, safer, and more democratic digital culture.
